Specialty Doctor Paediatric

Hours: Full time

Contract: Fixed term 12 months - possible extension to a permanent post

Location: Sussex

Salary: £52, 530 - £82,400 per annum

We have an excellent opportunity for a Specialty Doctor to join a high-quality hospital, delivering exceptional community care to over half a million residents in the Sussex area. The Trust is supported by over 7,000 dedicated staff members, operating from two acute hospitals, three community hospitals, and more than 100 community sites across the region.

The post in General Paediatrics is to support the inpatient service, SSPAU & Level 1 SCBU.

There will be an agreed Personal Development Plan to meet the current service needs on a 1:8 Tier 3 rota and a development of a possible specialist interest.

The department is an examination centre for clinical MRCPCH examination.

Key responsibilities for the Specialty Doctor Paediatric role:

  • Attend and participate in governance meetings such as clinical risk, audit, Paediatric M&M, Obstetric and Joint neonatal meeting in addition to the weekly paediatric teaching meetings (Grand round, radiology meeting, and weekly departmental teaching and simulation). You would also be supporting the training of medical students and junior doctors.
  • To participate in the weekly/ monthly teaching activity in General Paediatrics
  • To work as part of the medical, nursing and Divisional team to maintain and improve the health and clinical care to local children and young people
  • To work collaboratively with Primary care colleagues and other specialties including maternity, radiology, anaesthetics, paediatric surgery, emergency medicine and adult neurology among other adult medicine subspecialties .
  • To work as part of the broader team and in collaboration with children's services and the police to ensure the safeguarding of children and young people.
  • To contribute to the delivery of services which are financially responsible and efficient.

Minimum requirements for the Specialty Doctor Paediatric role are:

  • Full registration with GMC.
  • Higher Diploma (Fellowship or Membership) of specialty college or equivalent
  • At least three years' experience in General paediatrics including Neonatal medicine at a middle grade level
