Consultant in Community General Adult Psychiatry

£99, 532 - £131, 964 per annum

Full time: 10 PA's per week

We are currently collaborating with an NHS Trust located in South West England, actively seeking experienced Psychiatrists to enhance their dedicated teams. As a prominent NHS community and mental health provider, the Trust is committed to delivering comprehensive care, focusing on both physical and mental well-being. Their services extend to providing specialized support for individuals dealing with dementia and learning disabilities.

The Trust comprises approximately 4,000 professionals, including doctors, nurses, therapists, administrators, and support staff. Their work is diverse, taking place in people's homes, community clinics, and various bases. Additionally, some team members operate from the Trust's 10 community hospitals, serving a population of over 500,000 residents in the region.

This post is community based and without in-patient responsibility serving people aged 18 - 75 years.

Key responsibilities for the Consultant in Community General Adult Psychiatry role:

  • Act as Consultant Psychiatrist for people from the age of 18 referred from within the catchment area, within a multidisciplinary team setting. This will be done by providing outpatient services within the catchment area.
  • To manage, appraise, and give professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed between Consultant colleagues and the Medical Director and in accordance with the Trust's personnel policies and procedures.
  • To participate in service and business planning activity for the adult services (hospital and community), and as appropriate, for the whole Mental Health Service.
  • A blend of face-to-face review in outpatient clinics, home visits, and use of alternative technologies such as telephone review and video consultation software.
  • Supervision of the clinical work of the junior doctor will also be required, with at least one hour of formal supervision time each week.
  • Attendance at the CMHT multidisciplinary team meetings is expected to discuss new referrals and existing caseload patients.
  • The consultant will contribute towards the formulation and management of complex cases and provide support to team member.
  • Maintain close working relationships with colleagues in inpatient services concerning the care of patients from within their patch.

Minimum requirements for the Consultant in Community General Adult Psychiatry role is:

  • Full GMC registration
  • MRCPsych (desirable)
  • Section 12 (desirable)
  • Experience in assessing and treating mental health patients in out-patient and community settings.
  • Knowledge and evidence of participation in CPD
  • Inclusion (or eligibility for inclusion) on the Specialist Register or a Specialty Trainee within 6 months of gaining CCT
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to engage with clients experiencing a wide range of mental health problems
  • Previous experience in taking a leadership role in multi-disciplinary teams
